Gourmet Raw Vegan Pizza! – Part One

My Finished Pizza on Dehydrator

Most of my raw recipes are quick and require very little equipment, but over the holidays I decided to try my hand at a gourmet recipe.  I bootlegged this delicious  pizza recipe from raw chef Elaina Love, and of course added my own secret ingredients.  If you are a food connoisseur or just someone who loves good pizza, the rich raw flavors in this recipe will win you over fast. It was amazing and disappeared from the dinner table quickly, but as a forewarning, making the crust takes time. The actually prep time is quick but then the crusts have to dry in a dehydrator for anywhere from 8-12 hours.  So this definitely requires planning a day in advance, but is worth the wait and you can also maximize your time if you make a lot of crusts and save them for later in the freezer.  Make sure to have fun and modify ingredients to your taste buds!

Crust Ingredients:

3 cups chopped yellow zuccini, 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, 1 cup soaked almonds (soak 1/2 cup to get 1 cup when soaked), 1 cup flaxseed meal, 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, ( I added in a bit of yellow curry*)

Sauce Ingredients:

1 cup sun dried tomatoes (soaked briefly), 3 chopped regular tomatoes, 2 dates, garlic clove, 1 teaspoon sea salt, 1/4 teaspoon oregano, 7 basil leaves, 1/16 onion

Here is the cheesy video I watched that breaks  down preparation step by step:

Good points, I think I will definitely subscribe! I’ll go and read some more! What do you see the future of this being?

    • Thank you! 🙂 I appreciate your support. In the future I wd like this blog to be a great resource of information to vegans, vegans in transition, or even meat-eaters who are curious on the raw/vegan lifestyle from recipes, natural beauty/anti-aging tips, and solid information on a variety of supplements and food sources available.

    Wow! This is Awesome.
I actually just mixed up the crusts with a spaghetti squash I’ve had for a long time (not too long thankfully).. and they look fantastic! I can’t wait til they are done. 🙂

The whole recipe looks great. I’m making these for my family – I’ve been an uncooking fiend for the last few days whipping them up delicious food and this should be perfect for tomorrow. It’s crazy how happy this makes me – but I guess that’s just another great benefit of making raw food. 🙂

    Thanks!

    • Very cool Amanda abt the spaghetti squash! It’s a really yummy recipe. My family who are not vegan/raw demolished this pizza and said it was better than the traditional version. I’m sure your fam will love it. That’s one thing I experienced when I started on raw myself—-you get engulfed in the joy of preparing food. At the end of the day we really should be preparing meals and putting good energy into our food but our lifestyles have forced us into being hurried and rushed so much that we can forget what a simple pleasure it is to take time to enjoy true nourishment! Thanks for yr comment! – XoXo Raw Girl

I am not a vegan, but I started eating some of the raw vegan recipes for health reasons. I have Type I Diabetes and found that I can eat these foods, feel full and use less insulin. Amazingly enough, my husband and kids liked it too.

If I add mushrooms to the recipe, I do cook them. I have some minor expertise in gathering wild mushrooms, and they are generally healthier when cooked. Wild mushrooms which are exposed to sunlight have a much higher Vitamin D content than the stuff you buy in the grocery store.

Help I have no dehydrator. Can you tell me te method used to cook raw with an oven? Or f that s even possible? Thanks.

    • Hey Malaya: Sorry an oven wont work for you. I’ve heard of people trying this but it never works! If your serious about going raw invest in one. If not, you can cook vegan in your oven for the time being. XoXo Raw Girl

  5. Malaya says:

Thanks I will invest in one. I’m very serious about becoming a permanent raw foodie! Love your blog btw!

  6. Kim says:

This is awesome! What brand of dehydrator do you use?

    • rawgirl says:

Hi Kim, I’m not a fan of plugging brands. One of the most popular dehydrator brands is Excalibur, they work well. -XoXo
