Me spotting the crazy a mile away coming for my joy and peace of mind…. #nottoday
2021 is off to an intense start, but my question to you is… What do you do daily that grounds you? Where does your joy come from? Let’s chat about a few simple things that can help us stay balanced even when the ish hits the fan (**clearly this has happened**).
- Get grounded spiritually and disconnect from all socials and news when you need to. It’s important to have a #spiritualfilter and regimen every day that gives you a buffer from the memes, the headlines, the posts, and the chaos. This is where daily prayer, meditation, or time in nature can have far reaching effects on your day and also calm the fight or flight response. My hour of prayer each morning kept a smile on my face the past two days despite the drama. Find what works for you and do it so you are not at the mercy of the events around you.
- Get off the couch and move your body to release any frustrations. When we don’t express our emotions they can become toxic to the body and can lead to an imbalance in our health. Allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling, and also channel some of that energy into a HIIT workout, run, punching bag, whatever you need sis!
- Connect with a tried and true friend or a licensed therapist if you need to vent and really unpack your emotions. Trauma is real and there’s many types—the collective trauma that we can feel because of race, gender, etc. or the personal traumas we experience because of unforeseen interactions and events. As someone who has experienced trauma on multiple levels and seeing many clients who have experienced the same, I know it is important to not sweep it under the rug. Trauma only becomes toxic when you try to hide it. It needs to be aired out and the negative beliefs that come with it need to be dismantled. So talk to someone you can trust, and do the spiritual work to mend in your own time.
- Reframe and refocus. After you’ve processed all the emotions, remember your recent wins or refocus on the goals that energize you to divert your attention to something positive. -XO
