Let’s talk about our current approach to health…
While I am grateful for modern medicine, on an individual level so many of us are struggling with chronic conditions. And part of that is because our healthcare system isn’t set up to take care of us.
It’s not accessible. From a broader perspective, healthcare is expensive, insurance and medical bills are confusing, and it’s difficult to get an appointment on a moment’s notice.
It’s built to be efficient for everyone except the patient (you). Appointments are short, and intake forms and questions are limited.
It’s reactive – not proactive. We don’t get tested until the problem is already at its worst. Then the symptoms are treated, not the root cause.
We’re not being heard. Women, and especially women of color, are typically not heard in medicine. Our pain isn’t recognized and we’re just not treated the same.
That’s why within my own work as a certified nutritionist and behavioral coach, I practice and am such a huge advocate for these things: Accessibility, proactive testing, looking at the body as a whole, holistic treatments, and listening. Drop a comment below if you agree. -XO
