The Wellness Wheel

Them: How are your #2021 #heathgoals & #healthyresolutions coming? Me: Sips my beet juice. Chile, I have transcended health goals and resolutions. My wellness wheel is epic!

The New Year is a great moment to stop pushing for a moment, stop, breathe and reflect on what you have accomplished and also take a holistic look at your wellness. One of my favorite exercises to do to assess the current state of my life is the Wellness Wheel Exercise. If you’ve never done it it requires us to create a circle (as pictured) with various areas of well-being as slices of the pie or spokes on the wheel. These areas can include: finances, relationships/social, health, work, and spiritual well-being. We can score these areas from 1-10 and place a dot in each section (with zero at the center and 10 at the outside of the wheel). Then we connect the dots and see how close or far away from a circle our wheel is.

What’s amazing about this exercise is that it gives us a snapshot of the current state of our lives. We may be crushing it at work, but our relationship department is horrible. Or our health could be poor, and that could be lowering our work score because we don’t have the energy to perform at our peak. When we learn to measure our success by how full our wheel is, we not only remind ourselves to move beyond the superficial, but we are loving ourselves enough to want wholeness in every aspect of our lives.

If you have never made a wellness wheel I challenge you to make one today. Check out this link to download it. Once you assess each area of your life, start brainstorming on daily actions you can take to improve in the categories that fell short. As seasons change some categories will always fall below the goal, and that is okay. The aim should not be for perfection, but reflection that leads to real action that can help us live the lives of our dreams. -XO

Let’s Chat About Immunity

Did you know that the concept of “immunity” is an entirely Western thing?

Yep. In ancient forms of medicine there is no term “immunity” because good health is the sum total of a healthy diet, lifestyle, living in-tune with nature, and working in a way that is aligned with your purpose.

All that said, our immunity is adaptive and responds quickly to lifestyle and diet changes whether they be bad or good. Go without sleep, eat junk for a few weeks, or skip exercise and if you listen carefully you can usually feel your body is less equipped to fight off any potential pathogens or invaders. If we do get sick, it’s important to remove foods that can worsen our symptoms, and give our bodies the supportive nutrients it needs to get us back to one.

My new Immune Boosting Protocol is designed to help you ward off viral, cold, or flu symptoms using holistic means. In this downloadable PDF, you’ll receive directions for diet and lifestyle changes that support immunity if you have cold, viral, or flu symptoms, supplement instructions and dosages that support recovery, and a breakdown of each supplement included that explains the mechanism of action along with the research sources I used to create it. No more wondering why you are taking certain supplements and not knowing if they are working!

As an added BONUS you can upgrade to the protocol that includes instructions for how to incorporate essential oils in your recovery routine using acupuncture points and we’ll priority-ship a specially formulated 5ml immune boosting essential oil blend directly to you.

Recently, I have had patients struggling with symptoms of viral, cold, and flu symptoms. This protocol has successfully helped them recover quickly and bounce back with no adverse side effects. Read their testimonials above. Click HERE for more details. -XO

How to Stay Balanced When the -Ish Hits the Fan

Me spotting the crazy a mile away coming for my joy and peace of mind…. #nottoday

2021 is off to an intense start, but my question to you is… What do you do daily that grounds you? Where does your joy come from? Let’s chat about a few simple things that can help us stay balanced even when the ish hits the fan (**clearly this has happened**).

  1. Get grounded spiritually and disconnect from all socials and news when you need to. It’s important to have a #spiritualfilter and regimen every day that gives you a buffer from the memes, the headlines, the posts, and the chaos. This is where daily prayer, meditation, or time in nature can have far reaching effects on your day and also calm the fight or flight response. My hour of prayer each morning kept a smile on my face the past two days despite the drama. Find what works for you and do it so you are not at the mercy of the events around you.
  2. Get off the couch and move your body to release any frustrations. When we don’t express our emotions they can become toxic to the body and can lead to an imbalance in our health. Allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling, and also channel some of that energy into a HIIT workout, run, punching bag, whatever you need sis!
  3. Connect with a tried and true friend or a licensed therapist if you need to vent and really unpack your emotions. Trauma is real and there’s many types—the collective trauma that we can feel because of race, gender, etc. or the personal traumas we experience because of unforeseen interactions and events. As someone who has experienced trauma on multiple levels and seeing many clients who have experienced the same, I know it is important to not sweep it under the rug. Trauma only becomes toxic when you try to hide it. It needs to be aired out and the negative beliefs that come with it need to be dismantled. So talk to someone you can trust, and do the spiritual work to mend in your own time.
  4. Reframe and refocus. After you’ve processed all the emotions, remember your recent wins or refocus on the goals that energize you to divert your attention to something positive. -XO

Our Current Approach to Health…

Let’s talk about our current approach to health…

While I am grateful for modern medicine, on an individual level so many of us are struggling with chronic conditions. And part of that is because our healthcare system isn’t set up to take care of us.

It’s not accessible. From a broader perspective, healthcare is expensive, insurance and medical bills are confusing, and it’s difficult to get an appointment on a moment’s notice.

It’s built to be efficient for everyone except the patient (you). Appointments are short, and intake forms and questions are limited.

It’s reactive – not proactive. We don’t get tested until the problem is already at its worst. Then the symptoms are treated, not the root cause.

We’re not being heard. Women, and especially women of color, are typically not heard in medicine. Our pain isn’t recognized and we’re just not treated the same.

That’s why within my own work as a certified nutritionist and behavioral coach, I practice and am such a huge advocate for these things: Accessibility, proactive testing, looking at the body as a whole, holistic treatments, and listening. Drop a comment below if you agree. -XO

Immune Boosting Foods & Raw Girl’s Immune Boosting Protocol

Baby it’s cold outside!

And with Aunty Rona still running rampant, it’s important to keep your immunity high. The good news is that you can easily get an immune boost from the foods and spices that you include in your meals. Here is a short list of some go-to immune boosters:

Ginger – has been used for over 2,500 years to treat congestion, sinus pain and sore throat. It’s also great for relieving nausea or indigestion.

Garlic – has anti-viral, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties.

Oranges – eat them fresh or juice them for a Vitamin C boost. But if you want more bang for your buck, try papaya which contains around 3x the daily recommended value of vitamin C. It’s also packed with beta carotene, vitamin A and C, iron, calcium, folate, potassium, fiber, and more. Superfood powders of acerola cherry and baobab are also good alternatives that pack in high doses of vitamin C.

Wheatgrass – 2oz is equivalent to 3lbs of organic vitamins and minerals. It is a complete protein, helps to detoxify the body and remove toxins, energize, and will assist with relieving sinus issues and congestion. Contains vitamin A, C, E, and zinc to name a few.

If you are experiencing the onset of cold, flu or viral symptoms, need to support your immunity quickly, and would like to address these symptoms from a holistic perspective, then I’ve got good news lady – my Immune Boosting Protocol is now available to purchase and download! I had a family member get COVID-19 and use my protocol, and his temperature stabilized within four days of beginning it. He created a graph to chart his vitals. Thought it was a fluke until it worked for two more clients who recovered rapidly from COVID-19 symptoms one of which tested negative following use.

In this download, you’ll receive directions for diet and lifestyle changes that support recovery from viral, cold and flu symptoms, supplement instructions and dosages, and a breakdown of each supplement included with research references I used to create it. Visit this link to check it out! -XO
